Can be found year-round. Time of day is less critical than knowing where and how to look. Patience is key.
Tropical and subtropical ranges.
Masters of camouflage, often found sitting perfectly still on or near sponges, corals, or rocks that match their color/texture. Check muck diving sites (rubble, sand, discarded debris), reef structures, pier pilings, and even floating Sargassum weed (Sargassumfish). Look for the lure (esca) twitching or unusual shapes. Requires a keen eye and slow searching.
