How to spot the Sea snake when scuba diving
Hydrophis hardwickii
Found in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. They are generally not found in the Atlantic Ocean or the Red Sea due to salinity or temperature barriers.
Can be active during the day, seen hunting or moving through the water column.
Prefer warm tropical and subtropical waters. While capable of diving to cooler depths temporarily, their preferred range is generally above 20°C (68°F).
Often found weaving through coral structures or gliding over sandy bottoms. Some species are seen in sandy and seagrass areas or moving between rocks and coral heads closer to shore. Look in coastal waters and around islands with suitable habitat.
